Rim vs river
Down is optional; up is mandatory. If you hike below the rim, start early, carry water, and turn around while you still feel strong.
Shuttle and viewpoints
Use the free shuttle where required. Hermit Road and some overlooks are easier by bus than parking stress.
Sunrise and sunset
Pick one for a relaxed trip, or both if you are a photographer—schedule meals so you are not hangry at the edge.
